DISORGANIZED ATTACHMENT AND ITS DEVELOPMENTAL AND CLINICAL CONSEQUENCES
"In the case of the 'Disorganised' attachment (Main Kaplan & Cassidy 1985) the child gets little or no protection from the Secure Base figure, who is often the very source of threat, leading to an approach/avoidance dilemma in which the child is forced to rely on pathological self-soothing measures such as dissociation, bizarre posturing or repetitive self-injury. These can be seen as analogues, or even precursors of 'perverse' and narcissistic personality disorders in adult life." - Jeremy Holmes
